At first I thought the portions were a bit small, but I soon got used to piling my plate with salad and vegetables, and ended up feeling full. In fact, that was one of the best things about this method. It was so simple, and it encouraged me to eat loads of fruit and vegetables!

My weight problem didn’t exactly begin overnight – after my children were born around 30 years ago, the baby weight just never disappeared! I’ve tried loads of diet clubs, and had some success with Rosemary Conley for a bit, but you’re allowed snacks at night, and I found I’d start with one… then have another… then another.

Staying motivated wasn’t too much of a problem, as I can honestly say I never felt hungry. And, because nothing was banned, I didn’t feel deprived. I really liked the fact that this is something you can do privately, in your own home, without having to go to a club. You can eat with your family – even having the same meals as them – as long as you’re following the portion guidelines on your plate.

Kay, the inventor of The Diet Plate, was always available to give me support if I got stuck, and although I didn’t follow a formal exercise plan, I tried to be more active to speed my weight loss along. I never struggle to stay on track now that I’ve got used to eating the right proportions of foods. Surprisingly, I’ve found that I actually enjoy food more than I used to. These days, I eat all sorts of vegetables, so my diet is far more interesting than it was. After a couple of months, people at work started to notice that I was getting thinner, they kept on asking me, “how are you doing that?” In fact, when they found out, quite a few of them bought their own plate!

Their compliments gave me such a boost. My doctor had set me a target of 73 kg, and when I reached it he wrote on my notes ‘Chrissie looks absolutely fantastic. Well done – keep it up!’ I do feel so much better now, in so many ways. It’s strange, I didn’t really believe I could change, but I proved myself wrong. The first time I looked at myself in a full-length mirror, I just couldn’t believe it was me. Slimming down from a size 20 to a 12 has made a big difference to my dress sense, too!

Losing weight has also changed my mindset towards food. I used to think about eating all the time, but now if the cream cakes come out at work, I have no problem refusing – I know I don’t want one, really! In fact, my willpower has really increased, and I can turn down cake and chocolate with ease. They actually make me feel quite sick, and if I do have any it will only be a tiny taste, as it’s so sweet.

I understand the impact good food choices have on my body and I don’t want to lose this 'feel good' factor by making bad choices. Losing the weight has also given me the courage to make major changes in my life. I am more positive and have gained in confidence and I am smiling every day.

My advice to anyone who wants to slim down is just go for it – you’ve got nothing to lose. Go on try The Diet Plate® for yourself. I’m full of confidence now, and I’ll never go back.
